Prenatal Yoga

Pregnancy isn’t always glamorous. In fact, many expecting parents experience fatigue, aches and pains, and anxiety during this time of rapid change. Practicing yoga, especially during pregnancy, is a great to combat these issues. In this class, you will learn yoga and meditation techniques to calm and quiet the body and mind. These breathing techniques, meditations, and movements can be useful during pregnancy, labor, and even after birth. Portsmouth Birth Services offers both private prenatal classes, and group classes. Our classes are taught by experienced yoga teacher, birth doula, and postpartum doula, Lydia Garnhart.

Group Prenatal Yoga

In a group prenatal class, you will you have an opportunity to practice the amazing tools yoga gives us to quiet and calm the body and mind. We know you have a lot going on – most new parents do. This opportunity to turn inwards and connect with yourself, your body, and your baby can be invaluable!

In addition to reducing stress, and calming the body and mind, group prenatal yoga sessions are a great way to foster a sense of community and camaraderie during your pregnancy. You will have the opportunity to connect with other parents traveling the path to parenthood right along with you. We have found that expecting parents deeply appreciate the opportunity to connect and share during this wonderful transition. Many meaningful and lasting connections between expecting parents have been made in the yoga room. Our goal is for you to feel safe, relaxed and that you are among friends.


Private Prenatal Yoga

A private session is a great way to dive deeper into any specific personal questions or concerns that you might have about your yoga practice during pregnancy. We will also have the opportunity delve into the many applications of yoga as a labor coping technique.

You’ll have the benefit of working one-on-one with an experienced yoga teacher and doula, and receive the knowledge and expertise of both! Because each session is all about YOU, we are able to address specific postures that can especially benefit you and your own unique body and pregnancy. Caregiver & Baby Yoga

Also known as Mom & Baby yoga, this class is intended for new parents to have an opportunity to practice yoga in a safe and welcoming environment. New parents and pre-crawling babies are welcomed in this class. Taking breaks for holding, feeding, and diaper changing is encouraged and expected.
Many new parents appreciate the opportunity to get on their mats, knowing that others in the room are going through the same joys and challenges of early parenthood. Come practice with us and leave feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and ready to face whatever the day brings!
